Have You Considered Going Ductless This Winter?
admin • January 10, 2022

While this isn’t the most popular time to replace a heater, since temperatures are already cooling down, there’s not a whole lot you can do about it if you’ve found yourself too cold this season due to an inefficient or ineffective heating system. That said, if the time has come for you to replace your heater, you’d do well to consider the installation of a ductless mini-split. Why? Read on to learn some of the benefits!

Ductless Systems Are Efficient

Did you know that air loss from your ductwork can account for over 30% of your HVAC system’s energy consumption? According to energy.gov, this is particularly true if that ductwork is in an unused space such as your attic.

The risk of ductwork damage simply doesn’t exist with a ductless system, first off. This is one way they are automatically more efficient. Secondly, they use heat pump technology. This means they use refrigerant to transfer heat, and do not use energy to generate heat like a furnace does.

Heat pumps and ductless systems work particularly well in climates that have hot summer days but relatively mild winters, which makes them a perfect choice for Glendale area residents!

Ductless Systems Are Flexible

Ductless mini-splits offer your home zone-controlled heating and cooling. What we mean is that you can control the temperature separately around the home. The benefit of this over other system types is that you can heat or cool the rooms that require it, without impacting rooms that are unoccupied at the time.

Ductless mini-splits are a great choice for small homes, condos, and apartments. The outdoor unit combined with up to 4 small indoor air handlers save a lot more room in the home, too. If you have a larger home, you still may benefit from this type of setup, though you’ll likely need two outdoor units if you have more than 4 rooms that need efficient heating and cooling (this is including your living room and kitchen area!)

Ductless Systems Improve Indoor Air Quality

There are a number of products on the market that will improve your indoor air quality, including air purifiers and whole-home air filtration systems. Ductless systems naturally help your indoor air quality a bit as well.

This is because they lack ductwork. Ductwork has the opportunity to accumulate damage and as a result accumulate dust, dirt, and other debris. This debris can get sent back into your living space through the vents, making for a less than healthy environment for you and your family.

Ductless systems eliminate this problem by eliminating ducts!

You Don’t Lose Heating or Cooling if an Air Handler Breaks

One of the great things about a ductless system is that if one of the air handlers breaks down, you’re not totally out a heating or cooling system. You can still use the other air handlers to heat or cool your space. Sure, it’s a bit inconvenient, but it’s at least better than having no heating or no air conditioning at all!
