Keep a Fresh Filter in Your Furnace!
admin • November 18, 2019

That title is pretty direct, isn’t it? Well, sometimes it just really pays to be direct. This is one of those cases. We don’t have the most intense winter weather in this part of the country, obviously, which is why some homeowners allow themselves to be lulled into a false sense of security. To that we say—enough!

It may not be that cold around here in the winter, but that doesn’t mean that you can afford to take any chances with your home heating system. Do everything that you can to avoid problems with your heater. The simplest thing you can do is also one of the most effective. Changing the filter in your HVAC system in Glendale, CA.

Yes, Clean Filters Are That Important

If you think that an air filter in your furnace is not a very important component, think again. Your filter isn’t really there to protect the quality of the air that you breathe in your home. That filter is there to protect your furnace itself. And if you leave a very dirty filter in your furnace, then you are essentially setting your filter up for failure.

When a filter in a forced air HVAC system is very dirty, it creates excessive airflow resistance. When there is too much airflow resistance in the system, a number of problems develop. These include the following:

  1. Decreased energy efficiency, leaving you to pay more for your comfort, even though there is less of it to go around.
  2. Increased strain on the system, meaning that damages and repair needs are more likely to develop.
  3. Reduced system lifespan, as working harder and harder for longer and longer takes its toll.

You Can Change the Filter Yourself

This is not a DIY blog. In fact, we typically and explicitly advise against servicing your own HVAC equipment. However, this is something that any homeowner can do on his or her own.

Air filters are very cheap, so financially there is no reason why you shouldn’t be taking this vital step. And if you’re concerned about the complexity of the process, well—what complexity. You just pull the old filter out and put the new filter in. It could not be simpler. If you have questions, of course, we’re happy to answer them.

Remember, You Still Need Maintenance

Okay, so changing your air filter is a great way to help protect the condition and overall operational quality of your air conditioning system. However, you do still need to schedule professional HVAC maintenance. This is not something that you can possibly handle on your own. The good news here is that our team is never more than a phone call away.

When we tune up your heater, you can count on getting the very best performance that it has to offer. Even so, you’ll still want to check in on your air filter regularly. After all, it will need to be changed more than once a year.
