There are a variety of factors that can impact the comfort and health of your home. Indoor air quality is a very big one. Did you know that without the right products and services, your indoor air quality can actually be worse than the quality of the air outside?
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to mitigate this, and some of these steps don’t require you to buy any special equipment. Read on to learn more!
Homeowners aren’t often aware of this, but indoor plants can really help indoor air quality. They reduce the build-up of dust and can work as a natural “air purifier” if you have enough of them.
Consider plans such as chrysanthemums, aloe, snake plants, and spider plants. It’s also important to keep in mind that some plants are more pet-safe than others. If you do have curious canines or cats, it’s important to do your research.
It’s important that we note that you shouldn’t have your windows open while you’re running your air conditioner. This is inefficient for the AC system, as it won’t be able to reach your desired temperature setting and will just continue to run.
If it’s mild enough outside though, or even cool, then you could really benefit from the fresh air and circulation.
Another thing you might benefit from is the installation of an energy recovery ventilator, which allows you to get pre-cooled air into your home without opening any windows or turning off your AC!
The ideal average humidity level in any given home is between 30-50%. Anything above 50% is considered high and can cause problems for your family’s health in addition to problems for your property through water damage and mold growth.
A whole-house dehumidifier can be installed directly into your ductwork where it will help the most while staying out of the way.
Most homeowners know that their HVAC systems have an air filter, but don’t necessarily know the purpose of those air filters. It’s not for your indoor air quality!
While HVAC air filters don’t hurt your indoor air quality, they’re not effective enough to improve it. That said, they do have an important job–they keep dust, dirt, allergens, and other debris from getting inside the HVAC system and damaging components.
But when this air filter gets too clogged up with that debris, it restricts airflow and can cause your HVAC systems to run longer than they should have to in order to do their job. This is inefficient and will leave you uncomfortable.
Professional maintenance allows our technicians to thoroughly inspect, adjust, and clean the components that need it within your HVAC system. The latter helps your air conditioner or heater supply you with clean, breathable air that helps to improve your overall indoor air quality.
These are just a few of the ways you can improve your indoor air quality. Please reach out to us for more tips or to schedule installation!
