3 Ways That Ductless Heating Can Save Money

A man is fixing an air conditioner with a screwdriver.

There is no wrong way to heat a house (assuming you’re using an actual heating system, of course—not burning scrap wood in a barrel or relying on cooking appliances to do the job!). But the biggest mistake that homeowners make when it comes to how they heat their homes is simply not doing their homework ahead of time.

If you don’t do your homework, how can you expect to find the right heater for your home?

Today, we want to talk about one system that you definitely don’t want to overlook. The ductless mini-split! There are a few unique ways in which a ductless mini-split can save you money when heating your home. Remember, whether you need a heating installation or heating repair in Long Beach, CA ,  we’re the pros to call.

How Ductless Heating Works

To understand how ductless heating saves you money, you first need to understand how it is that ductless mini splits work. Basically, they’re heat pumps. They don’t burn fuel or use electricity to generate new heat. They use the refrigerant cycle and heat transfer principles to transfer existing heat into the house, instead.

That’s Cool! How Do They Save Money, Though?

Well, that’s the first answer right above. Transferring heat means that you’re paying to burn gas. You’re not paying to consume electricity to generate heat.

Heat pumps in general are widely renowned for their incredible energy efficiency. Of course, the ductless mini-split is not the garden variety air-source heat pump. What sets them apart?

No Ductwork!

How’s that save money? Well, in a few ways. Don’t have existing ductwork in your home? Existing ductwork is in bad shape and needs repairs? With a ductless system, you don’t need to install or overhaul it.

Plus, keep in mind that air ducts are a very common source of energy inefficiency. They leak, the insulation surrounding them degrades and allows for heat loss, etc. By eliminating the need for ductwork entirely, you eliminate the risk of such inefficiency.

Streamlined Installation

Do you have an older home that doesn’t have ductwork installed already? Looking to avoid the cost of ductwork, as well as the inefficiency they can cause? Installing a ductless mini-split means you just need a hole drilled in the walls so that piping can run from the indoor, wall-mounted blower units to the outdoor unit. That’s a simple installation, and it’s a great way to preserve older properties.

Zone Control

If you are heating every area of your home to the same temperature, you’re probably wasting energy.  Do the small, unoccupied bedrooms need to be heated to the same temperature as the big, open, occupied space downstairs all day long? Probably not, right?

Going ductless means greater control. Each blower is controlled by its own independent thermostat.  That means you can actually live more comfortably for less!

Oh, and Did We Mention…

…these systems can reverse to function as ACs, too? That means year-round comfort with just one system.
